Unexpected: A Poem

Unexpected

by Christine Winward 11-3-2013

Unexpected
the difficulty of sitting reverent and still;
with no child to distract me, my attention to fill.
Unexpected
the inner struggle to stay in tune and prayerful;
with no child to wrestle, to comfort when tearful.
Unexpected
my Savior’s love I feel magnified;
with my child, still wiggling, right by my side.
Unexpected
the gratitude that chastens and humbles;
with my child, I’m acutely aware when I stumble.
Unexpected
that alone, focus is so hard to achieve;
with my child, reverence is easier for me!
